Samsung Galaxy model archive · 2020
Z Fold2 followed the original Fold with a substantially more useful cover screen and a larger inner display. This guide is filed under its full September reveal, following the initial August 2020 preview.

Generation at a glance
- 6.2-inch Infinity-O cover display
- 7.6-inch folding inner display
- Adaptive 120Hz on the inner display
- Flex mode and Multi-Active Window
A cover screen you can actually use
A foldable is easier to live with when routine tasks do not require opening it every time. The larger cover display is therefore an important part of the Fold2 story, not merely a secondary specification. When opened, the bigger workspace can help with reading and comparing information. Try the same task on both screens to see whether the transition is useful; extra display area has the most value when an app layout makes good use of it.
Which version is which?
Z Fold2 5G is the second book-style Fold generation. It is separate from the 2020 Z Flip clamshell and from later Fold3 models. Samsung’s September announcement supplied the fuller product and availability details after the August preview. A special finish or branded edition does not change the need to identify the actual hardware generation.
Looking at one today
Examine the hinge movement, inner-screen edges and crease gently. Test touch input across both displays and try the camera previews. Ask about prior inner-screen repairs and whether a warranty specifically covers the folding mechanism. Check network compatibility for imported models. Choose a device with a clear history over one whose seller only shows polished photographs of the closed phone.
Before choosing an older phone, check the exact model on Samsung’s current security-update list and confirm local network compatibility.
