A larger panel does not have to mean a dramatically bulkier phone. The S4 illustrates why screen size, bezel width, weight and grip should be considered together. Its extensive software feature list also makes a useful archive lesson: not every function promoted at launch becomes part of a lasting everyday habit. When comparing older models, separate the enduring physical characteristics from apps and online services that may have changed since release.
Which version is which?
Galaxy S4 is the fourth main generation. Samsung’s regional model numbers and related submodels should be checked carefully; similar branding does not guarantee identical processors, network bands or accessories. Start with the device’s own model information rather than the heading in a marketplace advert. That is especially useful when buying a phone originally sold in another country.
Looking at one today
Check the AMOLED screen, home key and charging port, then remove the back only as intended to inspect the battery and contacts. Look for mismatched replacement panels or a loose rear cover. Ask whether the battery is original or a documented replacement. A very low purchase price can still be poor value if the display or charging connection needs an immediate repair.
