A hinge can change how you take a picture
The ability to position a phone partly open can be useful for group photos and video without holding it continuously. That is a form-factor benefit, separate from camera resolution or lens choice. On the Fold, the larger screen also supports checking a capture while preparing the next shot. Try the workflow you would actually use, because an interesting launch demonstration does not tell you whether an app handles that layout well for your needs.
Which version is which?
Z Fold4 and Z Flip4 are the August 2022 pair. Fold4 supports compatible pen input; Flip4 is not a smaller version of that pen-enabled workspace. The foldable camera systems differ, so do not transfer the Fold’s camera specifications to the Flip. Confirm the precise generation before buying a hinge case, screen protector or replacement component.
Looking at one today
Check both displays, the crease and hinge movement, then test cameras and charging. On a Flip, see whether the cover-screen tasks you need can be completed comfortably. On a Fold, try your usual reading and multitasking apps. Ask who performed any screen repair and what the warranty covers; the value of an older folding phone depends heavily on those practical details.
