Google Pixel model archive · 2020
Google announced Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a (5G) together, giving the 2020 range two different routes into 5G. Their shared launch can be confusing: one belongs to the main numbered line and the other to the more affordable a-series.

Generation at a glance
- Joint announcement in September 2020
- 5G connectivity on both models
- Rear main and ultrawide cameras
- Extreme Battery Saver introduced with this generation
Why these two belong together in the archive
The pairing reflects a product strategy rather than identical hardware. Google focused on helpful camera and software features across both phones, while giving buyers different packages. The ultrawide camera also changed the photographic choice compared with the Pixel 4 generation’s telephoto approach. Think about whether you want to include more of a scene or bring a distant subject closer; these are different camera jobs.
Which version is which?
Pixel 5 is the main-series model. Pixel 4a (5G) is not the original August Pixel 4a with a setting switched on, and it should not be confused with Pixel 5a, which arrived in 2021. Check the complete name before buying accessories, comparing screen sizes or ordering replacement parts. The shared launch date does not make those parts interchangeable.
Looking at one today
An imported 5G phone needs more than a 5G label: verify the exact model and local carrier compatibility. Test the main and ultrawide views, fingerprint unlocking, calls and the charging connection. Battery condition can dominate the experience on hardware of this age, so a clear repair history is more useful than an optimistic description such as “like new”.
Pixel 5a and earlier no longer receive Android or security updates. Check Google’s current Pixel update schedule for the exact model.
