Samsung’s 2026 foldable range introduced a Fold8 Ultra alongside a differently proportioned Fold8 and the compact Flip8. These are three distinct experiences, so Ultra should not be read as simply another storage level.

Screen proportions matter as much as diagonal size
A screen measurement alone does not describe how a document, film or web page fits. Fold8’s different proportions make it worth comparing with Ultra using your own content, rather than assuming a larger number is always preferable. Flip8 serves a different purpose again: portability and selected tasks without opening the device. AI and camera demonstrations can help explain possibilities, but your most frequent activities should decide which format deserves a place in your pocket.
Which version is which?
The July 2026 family comprises Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8. The standard Fold and Ultra have different display arrangements and bodies; they are not interchangeable accessories-wise. Check each model’s specification separately, including camera and charging details. Do not apply an Ultra-only feature or weight to the regular Fold merely because the model names are close.
Looking at one today
Try typing, reading and your usual apps in both orientations before choosing a format. Inspect hinge movement and screen edges on any open-box or used example and ask about repairs. Check the availability of AI services in your language and country and compare warranty regions. For a folding phone, a good fit for daily use is more valuable than choosing the most ambitious name by default.
