Samsung Galaxy model archive · 2016
Galaxy S7 refined the glass-and-metal approach and made the curved model a larger alternative. Improved focusing, expandable storage and water resistance gave the generation a practical identity alongside its polished appearance.

Generation at a glance
- 5.1-inch S7 and 5.5-inch S7 edge
- Dual Pixel rear-camera technology
- IP68 rating when new
- microSD expansion
A refinement with useful everyday changes
The camera’s focusing system matters when a subject will not stay still, while expandable storage changes how a phone handles a large local photo collection. These are separate benefits and neither is explained by the outline of the body. The S7 generation is therefore worth considering as more than another curved-glass design. When assessing one now, practical condition has to take priority over the strong impression its specification made at launch.
Which version is which?
S7 is the smaller conventional-screen model; S7 edge is the larger curved-screen model. Both belong to the February 2016 announcement. Edge here describes a particular design, not the later slim-phone meaning of the S25 Edge name. Check the complete model number for regional and carrier differences before buying parts.
Looking at one today
Examine the curved screen corners on an edge model, then test camera focus, wireless charging and the home-key fingerprint reader. Inspect the SIM and memory-card tray for damage. A new phone’s IP68 rating should never be treated as proof that an old or repaired example remains sealed. Ask about battery replacement and compare repair costs with the value of the phone itself.
Before choosing an older phone, check the exact model on Samsung’s current security-update list and confirm local network compatibility.
