Samsung Galaxy model archive · 2019
The first Galaxy Fold opened a new branch of Samsung’s phone family. It combined a compact cover display with a much larger inner screen, introducing both new possibilities and a different set of care and buying questions.

Generation at a glance
- Original Fold announced in February 2019
- 7.3-inch Infinity Flex inner display
- 12GB RAM in the announcement specification
- Separate outer display and folding workspace
An announcement is not the whole launch story
The Fold is best understood as the start of a format, not simply an unusually large Galaxy S. Opening the inner display changes how an app can be used and how several tasks can share space. The original announcement and the eventual retail rollout were also different stages. This archive uses the introduction date; an early launch description should not be treated as a guarantee that the shipping product, timetable or availability stayed exactly as first presented.
Which version is which?
The 2019 device is called Galaxy Fold, without a Z in its original name. Z Fold2 followed in 2020. The original Fold should not be confused with the clamshell Z Flip, which folds a regular phone screen into a smaller package. Confirm the complete generation before considering cases, screen repairs or an import.
Looking at one today
Inspect the inner screen, edges and hinge gently, and test touch input on both displays. Do not peel protective screen layers or press on the crease. Ask about repairs and confirm what warranty, if any, covers the inner screen and hinge. A working outer screen and a tidy shell are not enough to assess a used foldable’s condition or justify a repair budget.
Before choosing an older phone, check the exact model on Samsung’s current security-update list and confirm local network compatibility.
