Google Pixel model archive · 2023
The original Pixel Fold opened a new branch of Google’s phone family. Rather than simply making a Pixel screen larger, it combined an outer phone display with a folding inner workspace and introduced a new set of practical buying questions.

Generation at a glance
- First Google Pixel Fold, announced in May 2023
- Google Tensor G2
- 7.6-inch inner display
- 5x telephoto camera
A folding screen changes the job of the phone
The inner display is most useful when an app benefits from more room or when two tasks genuinely belong side by side. It is less useful if you rarely open the phone. Before choosing a foldable, picture a few ordinary activities: reading a document while replying, following a map, or framing a photo. Those examples tell you more about suitability than an unfolded screen measurement on its own.
Which version is which?
The 2023 model is named Pixel Fold, without a number. Pixel 9 Pro Fold followed in 2024, changing the naming scheme. Neither should be confused with a conventional Pixel Pro phone. A listing that says only “Pixel Pro Fold” needs clarification, because different folding generations use different bodies, cases and screens.

Examine the inner display under gentle light, paying attention to damage around the crease and edges. Open and close the hinge normally, test both displays and check the cameras. Do not peel a factory screen layer or press hard on the crease during inspection. Ask about repair history and obtain a clear warranty: a foldable’s condition cannot be judged from a photograph of its closed outer screen alone.
