Google Pixel model archive · 2023
Pixel 8 continued the Tensor family with Tensor G3 and made long-term software support a central part of the launch message. The regular and Pro phones again serve different camera and size preferences, even though they share the same generation number.

- 50-megapixel main camera on both models
- Pixel 8 Pro includes a 5x telephoto camera
Hardware and editing need separate comparisons
The Pixel 8 generation is often described through its editing and AI features, but a useful buying decision still starts with the camera hardware. A dedicated telephoto lens affects framing before the picture exists. Editing tools act afterwards and may have account, connection or availability requirements. Consider the photographs you actually take rather than assuming that every software feature will be equally useful.
Which version is which?
Pixel 8 is the regular model and Pixel 8 Pro is the larger Pro option. Pixel 8a arrived separately in 2024 and is covered in its own guide. There was no Pro XL member of the Pixel 8 launch family, so a listing using that name should be checked against the model information on the device.
Looking at one today
Test the main and ultrawide cameras and, on the Pro, the telephoto view. Examine the camera bar and display glass for repairs, and try fingerprint unlocking. Software support is one reason to compare later Pixels with older bargains, but the support clock belongs to the model’s original availability, not the date on your second-hand receipt. Use Google’s schedule to check the remaining period.
Check Google’s current Pixel update schedule for the exact model.
