Apple announced Duo on 9 September 2026, with availability from 23 October. It featured a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch inner display, A20 Pro and a titanium design. Touch ID was integrated into the side button.

Choose a task that needs the extra canvas

Reading a long document, viewing a larger photograph and working across content can benefit from more visible space. But the benefit is only real if the applications and layout suit the task. Try moving between closed and open use with something you actually do, rather than judging the concept only from a promotional image. A folding phone should earn its extra complexity through a useful routine.

Which version is which?

Duo is distinct from iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Its inner and outer screens serve different contexts, so neither size should be compared with a conventional phone’s diagonal in isolation. Treat the two-screen arrangement, folded shape and authentication as a combined design choice. Storage and finish are choices within that model, not separate generations.

What to check before choosing one

Handle both open and closed configurations and inspect the display and hinge on the actual unit. Read Apple’s care guidance before choosing cleaning products or accessories. If a particular application is the reason for buying a foldable, demonstrate that app in the layout you want. Also confirm regional connectivity and support arrangements before purchase.

For a used handset, inspect the exact device rather than relying on stock photographs. Ask to see the cameras, charging and controls working. Check storage, battery condition and whether the previous owner has removed their account. Compare any repair quotation with the total purchase price. For daily use, verify the software and services you need on that model before buying.
