iPhone 11, 11 Pro and Pro Max (2019): understand the camera choices

IPHONE MODEL ARCHIVE · 2019

The iPhone 11 family made the Pro label part of the main range. A useful comparison starts with the photographs you take and the size you want to carry.

The generation at a glance

Apple introduced the range on 10 September 2019. The iPhone 11 paired Wide and Ultra Wide cameras with A13 Bionic. The 11 Pro and Pro Max added a Telephoto camera. Display sizes were 6.1 inches for the 11, 5.8 for the Pro and 6.5 for the Pro Max.

A wider view and a closer view solve different problems

An ultra-wide camera helps when you cannot step farther back; a telephoto view helps frame a more distant subject. Neither automatically produces a better composition. Think about the pictures you missed on your previous phone and which kind of framing would have helped. That is a stronger reason to choose a camera system than the Pro label on its own.

Which version is which?

The standard 11 uses an LCD; the Pro models use OLED displays. Pro Max is the larger Pro, while the ordinary 11 sits between the two Pro screen sizes. The names therefore do not describe a simple small-medium-large ladder. Establish which screen, camera options and body size you want before comparing storage.

What to check before choosing one

Demonstrate every rear camera and inspect the screen for uneven areas or damage. Ask for full-size sample files if photography is the reason for choosing a Pro. For everyday ownership, battery condition and the cost of any necessary repair may outweigh a feature difference between two worn examples.

For a used handset, inspect the exact device rather than relying on stock photographs. Ask to see the cameras, charging and controls working. Check storage, battery condition and whether the previous owner has removed their account. Compare any repair quotation with the total purchase price. For daily use, verify the software and services you need on that model before buying.
