Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold (2024): Foldable Generation Guide

Google Pixel model archive · 2024

Pixel 9 Pro Fold continued Google’s folding-phone project with Tensor G4 and a new numbered identity. It belongs alongside the Pixel 9 family in time, but it answers a different question: whether a larger folding workspace will help enough to justify carrying it.

Two screens need a real purpose

The most persuasive use of a foldable is a task that becomes easier when opened. Reading a document, comparing information or working across two apps can justify the extra display; simply stretching a social feed may not. The outer display also has a role during photography. Google’s Made You Look feature uses it to attract a subject’s attention, illustrating how a second screen can do something beyond showing a larger interface.

Which version is which?

Pixel 9 Pro Fold succeeds the original Pixel Fold. It is not a folding case for a Pixel 9 Pro, and its camera package should not be assumed identical to either conventional Pro model. Pixel 9 Pro XL is a normal large-screen phone; the word Fold identifies a different mechanism, screen construction and repair profile.

Looking at one today

Open the phone through its normal range and inspect the hinge, inner display, crease and screen edges without pressing hard. Test both displays, touch input across the full inner surface and the cameras. Ask about any inner-screen repair and the warranty that applies to it. A clean outer shell is only one part of assessing a used folding phone.

Check Google’s current Pixel update schedule for the exact model.
